We, the members of the Student Alliance for Firearm Education and Responsibility, are individuals who believe in individual rights and responsibilities, specifically those related to the use and ownership of firearms.

S.A.F.E.R. is a registered student organization at the University of Wisconsin--Madison. We certainly encourage as much participation and membership as possible. However, because of University rules for such organizations, we must limit official membership such that a majority of members are enrolled students of UW-Madison. Also, for obvious reasons, those whom local, state, or federal laws forbids from owning, possessing, or operating firearms are not eligible for membership.

As a group, we have two type of sessions: semi-monthly discussion forums every 1st and 3rd Monday at Union South, and monthly opportunities for target-shooting at local ranges.

Business Meetings / Discussion Forum

At our semi-monthly Monday meetings we discuss political issues and current events related to firearms and the rights of those who use them.  Our purpose is to create a forum to discuss issues related to firearms use, safety, and firearm-law; and to identify and promote opportunities for members to become politically active related to issues.  Additionally we strive to provide education regarding the safe and proper use of firearms.  We have a running archive of our work and advertising.  

Shooting Events

At regular Recreational Shooting outings we provide opportunities for members to learn and practice safe firearm handling techniques, as well as basic marksmanship skills. 

For the safety of all members, as well as private citizens, we require attendance to a Safety Orientation on the Monday prior to a Recreational Shoot. Please see our Recreational Shooting Page for details.
